The stunning peak of Pumori lies in the upper Khumbu region of Nepal just eight kilometers west of Mount Everest. Pumori's pyramid of snow and rock is spectacular in the way that it dominates the western side of the Khumbu Valley.

Known to some locals as 'Everest's daughter' and first climbed in 1962, Pumori's view into the Western Cwm of Everest is incredible. Pumori is a popular mountain for those who wish to climb a 7000m peak, although it is not a simple undertaking by any means.

After our flight to Lukla and our approach trek through the Khumbu region, base-camp will be set up at 5300m. Above that, a climb of approximately 4 hours takes us to camp 1 at 5700m. From camp 1, climbing of arround 480 metres on 40-60 degree slopes and through a snow wall reaches camp 2 at 6200m, situated spectacularly on a narrow ridge. From camp 2, approximately 450 metres of climbing on snow and ice with 30-60 degree slopes and passing around ice cliffs and crevasses will take you to camp 3 at an altitude of 6480m. Negotiating crevasses, with some more steep ground above, leads to the summit.

The view from here is stunning, as will have been the experience. After a while taking photographs, we will carefully make our way back down as far as possible that day, possibly all the way to base camp, tired and happy and with time to spare for an evening of celebration!
