General Information

FAQ's.

What time do we need to be there on the evening prior to the course?
There is usually no meeting on the evening prior to the course, unless specified. Meals in Grantown and Aberlour generally stop at about 20.30hrs, so if you want food you need to be a bit earlier. We meet at 09.00hrs prompt on the first morning.

Where are the courses based?
The courses are based in the Cairngorms, with a variety of venues being used. Accommodation is in either Aberlour or Grantown on Spey, depending upon the course taken.

Are they easy to get to?
Yes, the A9 is a fast road, giving easy access from the south.

Where is the nearest public transport?
Aviemore is closest for rail and coach. From there, taxis and the odd bus are available to get to Aberlour or Grantown.

What accommodation do most people go for?
Any. B&B seems to be the most popular in winter, and gives flexibility for the evenings. ML course candidates stay almost exclusively in the bunkroom option, although a few still prefer the B+B!

What equipment do we have to bring?
Everything is supplied, apart from boots and personal clothing. If you have your own gear, it would be a good idea to bring it and use it. Feel free to call us to discuss any equipment that you may wish to use or purchases that you are intending to make.

How do I book?
Easiest is to use the online booking form on the website. Alternatively, we can post you a booking form that can be returned by post or fax. 'Phone bookings can be pencilled in for five working days, subject to a booking form being received within that time.

Am I fit enough?
We are not looking for super-human fitness, just a good general level!

How do I pay?
Cash, cheque, credit card or postal order are all fine. Cards can be used over the 'phone, or any method enclosed with the booking form.

When is the balance due?
Full payment must be made twenty-eight days prior to the first day of the course, or immediately in the case of a ladt-minute booking.

What is included in the cost?
Accommodation (if specified on course description), meals as per accommodation option, instruction, use of specialized equipment.

Do I need insurance?
This is highly recommended. It should cover cancellation as well as personal injury and loss of equipment.

How do I get more information on the courses?
