Sport climbing - Chamonix Valley.
Although the Chamonix area is best known for its access to the mountains and the hordes of tourists, there is some excellent rock climbing to be had in the area. Mostly bolted, it provides a pleasant diversion for rest days from the mountains, or as a diversion in its own right.

Climbing in the valley will almost always have the Mont. Blanc range as its backdrop.

There is good bouldering to be had as well, here at the Col De Montets.

The harder routes tend to rely on friction and small holds, such as this thin rail that provides the crux move.

Most routes in the valley are single pitch, but there are some very good multi-pitch climbs as well. The easiest way down from some of these will be to abseil.

On blank rock, in search of something good to hold on to.

Great climbing with a spectacular backdrop, high on Gaillands crag.

Small holds and friction are the key to many routes.
